NEW BRITAIN - City Hall visitors will be greeted by a colorful display of artistic talent for the next few months. “The Friendship Garden” mural is now on display on the first floor of City Hall, just in front of the elevator lobby.

Thirty-three second- and third-graders who participated in the Smalley Academy School Art Program helped paint and design the mural. After being created over a period of six days, Victoria Cloud, president of the New Britain Artists’ Co-op, approached the New Britain Commission on the Arts about hanging it in City Hall. The commission agreed it would be a good fit for the building.

“It provides a welcoming entrance to visitors at City Hall and brightens one of the busiest areas of the building,” Mayor Erin Stewart said.

The mural will stay in City Hall for a few months before being moved to the Board of Education building.
