Female artists to be celebrated this evening

NEW BRITAIN - The 10th annual SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) Day CT gala supporting women in the arts is happening tonight and features female artists from around the state.

Girls and women from 15 to 80 years old will be selling locally made goods, displaying artwork, painting, conducting fashion shows, and presenting and performing music ranging from jazz to alternative.

The event will feature 1990s alternative rock performer Patti Rothberg and June Millington, the guitarist from Fanny, which in the 1970s became the first female rock band to sign with a major label.

Over 20 female artists from acrosss the state have been invited to display their work and network.

SWAN Day CT works with Support Women Artists Now in organizing the gala, and similar events are held across the country and in several other nations.

Connecticut native, singer and songwriter Jennifer Hill is hosting the event this year, as she has since SWAN Day was brought to the state 10 years ago.

The show is open to anyone over the 18, or younger if accompanied by an adult. Tickets are $18 online before the event, $20 at the door.

The event begins at 5 p.m. at Trinity-On-Main at 69 Main St. in downtown New Britain.
