Here’s a roundup of events taking place this weekend in and around New Britain:

First Friday on the second Friday

The New Britain Museum of American Art’s monthly First Friday event, bumped last week to accommodate setup for the Art Party of the Year, will take place tonight from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the museum, 56 Lexington St.

Jazz, gospel and R&B vocalist Teresa Wright will perform, along with alto saxophonist Mike Casey and pianist Jen Allen, billed as an interactive duo specializing in new music with a unique blend of upbeat jazz standards.

Arthur Murray Dance Studio will offer an Argentine Tango demonstration from 6:30 to 6:45 p.m. with lessons following at 7 p.m. in Vance Gallery. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased online or at the front desk.

The monthly Maker’s Market will feature the work of M.J. Fiber Art and Sea Elegance.

Admission includes entrance to museum galleries and special exhibitions. Docent-led tours will be available. Tickets are $10 for members, $15 non-members and an additional $5 for the cash bar.

The museum will also host an American Masterpieces Tour at 1 p.m. and its Sunday Music Series at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Opening reception at Art League

The opening reception for the Art League of New Britain’s 13th Annual Spring Juried Exhibit will take place tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at league gallery, 30 Cedar St.

Juror for the exhibit is Lisa Hayes Williams, curatorial assistant to the director at the New Britain Museum of American Art.

The public is invited to the opening reception and to view the exhibit during gallery hours, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. or by appointment.

Moving to the beat

The Plainville Choral Society at 7:30 p.m. tonight and Saturday will host “Motown Madness,” a concert featuring hits including “Dancing in the Street,” “I’ll Be There” and “Chapel of Love,” at the Middle School of Plainville, 150 Northwest Dr.

Tickets are available at or at Dancingly Yours, Irene’s Culinary in Forestville, the Plainville Senior Center, Saint’s Restaurant in Southington, Family Barber Shop or through any Plainville Choral Society members.

“Millie” continues

The Connecticut Theater Company continues its run of “Thoroughly Modern Millie” tonight.

The show runs at 7 p.m. tonight and Saturday; 2 p.m. on Sunday and 7 p.m. on May 19 and 20 and 2 p.m. on May 21.

Laughs at Trinity

Trinity-on-Main on Saturday will host “Comedy Just For You,” with comedians Marcellino “Moose” Hill, Robyn Schall, Rafi Gonzalez and headliner Brian Beaudoin.

A full cash bar and concessions will be available. Organizers note that the show is not appropriate for children under 16.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. VIP tickets for $30 include a dinner of sausage and peppers or pasta with green beans, rice and a glass of wine at a private table in front of the stage. The show begins at 8 p.m.
