Schedule announced for city's summer concert series

NEW BRITAIN - The city is ready to kick off the second annual four-week set of concerts on the Central Park plaza.

The lunchtime music series serves as the opening act to the 18 concerts that will take the stage at the Darius Miller Memorial Band Shell in Walnut Hill Park through the end of the summer.

The Central Park series will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each Wednesday in June, beginning with the sounds of Caribbean Vibe on June 7. Subsequent concerts will feature the Survivors Swing Band on June 14, Whiskey, Wine & Coke on June 21 and the Billy Pilgrim Band on June 28.

The concert series debuted last year as one of the first regular events subsequent to the official opening of the redesigned plaza.

The bi-weekly music series in Walnut Hill Park - all running from 7 to 9 p.m. - begins the following week with the U.S. Navy Band.

Aug. 9: Dick Santi Orchestra

Aug. 14: Simply Swing

Aug. 16: Governor’s Foot Guard

Aug. 21: Coyote River Band

Aug. 23: Locomotion

Aug. 28: Mass-Conn-Fusion

Aug. 30: Soul Sensations
