NBHS production up for several awards

NEW BRITAIN - New Britain High School’s Music Department’s March production of “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” has been nominated for numerous statewide awards.

It was recently announced that the production has been nominated for five Halo Awards which are given in recognition of excellence in high school theaters throughout Connecticut.

The awards, which will be presented at the Annual Halos Gala, are sponsored by the Seven Angels Theatre in Waterbury. This is the 14th annual rendition of the awards ceremony and more than 64 schools were nominated for awards this year.

Student Robert Breau has been nominated for Best Actor in a Comedic Role for his performance as Scuttle and his peer Celeste Gigliotti has been nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance as Ursula the Sea Witch.

Jasmine Colapietro received a Best Leading Actress nomination for her role as Ariel and was also nominated for Best Costume Design/Execution for her work as assistant director for the production.

The production’s stage crew received a nomination for “Best Running Crew” for its work backstage.

The Seven Angel Theatre’s Annual Halos Gala is a two-day event that began Tuesday and concludes today at the Palace Theater in Waterbury.

According to the Seven Angel Theatre’s website, the organization will present a $1,000 scholarship awarded each day to a student who will be pursuing a career in the arts. Seven Angels Theatre will also give a $250 cash award for the recipient of the Gypsy Robe, a scholarship to DanceMolinari in New York City.

Actor and motivational speaker Michelle Gotay is scheduled to host both nights.
