Carillon concert series begins Tuesday at First Church of Christ Congregational

NEW BRITAIN - The First Church of Christ Congregational will be holding a series of free carillon concerts, “The Bells of First Church,” starting Tuesday.

A carillon is made up of bells and is played from a keyboard.

The church is home to the Philip B. Stanley Carillon. Thirty-seven bells, weighing a total of 7,960 pounds, are suspended above the ground in a tower near the entrance to the church.

The first concert will take place Tuesday at 7 p.m. and will be preceded by a potluck picnic at 6. The next few weeks of concerts will include guests from the local area and from as far off as Denver.

Guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Picnic food, including salads and desserts, is also welcome. Complimentary ice cream and cold water bottles will be provided.
