NEW BRITAIN - Mayor Erin Stewart got 20 seconds of fame after TV star Mario Lopez took to Twitter praising her for being the youngest female mayor in America.

The television host and actor, best known for his role as A.C. Slater on “Saved by the Bell,” posted a video with his arm around the mayor Tuesday night introducing her to his Twittersphere.

“Alright this is my girl Mayor Erin Stewart who happens to be the youngest female mayor in America. 26 years old her first term, that’s awesome, look at that. That’s girl power right there,” he said.

On Monday the mayor posted on her Twitter feed: “Just hanging out with @MarioLopezExtra at city hall lol” with her posing with a head shot of the actor, which he later retweeted.

Tuesday night she shared a photo of the two on her account with the caption, “Let’s try this again/and this time he’s not on a stick! Lol thanks @MarioLopezExtra for being so great #newbritain #teamstewart.”

Lopez will be in New Britain for the next few weeks while the movie “Christmas Hours” is being filmed here.

The movie, which is set to be released in time for the holiday, is about two toy store owners played by Lopez and fellow TV star Melissa Joan Hart (“Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” “Melissa & Joey”) who team up to fight off a corporate toy story. In the mix of taking down the corporate giant, the two characters end up falling in love.

A majority of the movie will be filmed in the Hardware City including spots like Amato’s Toy and Hobby store, City Hall and Central Connecticut State University.

On Tuesday production crews were filming in Bristol outside the public library, former Barley Vine gastro pub and The Shaffer Company.

Earlier this week Lopez tweeted out a photo with co-star Melissa Joan Hart in front of a Christmas tree and said “Merry Christmas! @MelissaJoanHart #ChristmasHours #ChristmasInAugust.”

The same day he tweeted out a video with the Principal of Gaffney Elementary School, Anita Fazio, outside her home with the production crew, “People are so nice here… #christmashours #connecticut.”

Fazio told The Herald, location scouts came by her neighborhood a few weeks ago on the West End of the city and dropped letters in random mail slots asking if anyone would let the production crew use their home for a movie scene.

Monday morning, Lopez tweeted a video with actor Mario Cantone and said, “About to shoot our first scene @macantone #mariosquared #christmashours #connecticut,” while walking down a street in the West End.
