NEW BRITAIN - If you have artistic talent, the city wants to see it.
Mayor Erin Stewart and the New Britain Commission on the Arts are looking for artists to display their work in an exhibit in City Hall.
Artists will be provided space on the second floor of City Hall from Nov. 8 through March 30.
The Mayor’s Office and the Commission on the Arts will host an opening reception on Wednesday, Nov. 8. There is no fee for artists to participate.
The gallery has a hanging system that uses rods and a labeling system for each work displayed, so artists can note their name, contact information, title (if any), year of creation, materials used and the price, if the work is for sale.
Sales will be handled by the interested party and artist.
Artists are asked to donate 20 percent of proceeds from sales to support the New Britain Commission for the Arts, but that is voluntary.
To apply, email David Huck in the Mayor’s Office with a CV or resume (Word or PDF formats) and 10 samples of your work in JPEG format. The address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Artists can be from anywhere in the state, but those with substantial connections to New Britain are encouraged.
In describing the artwork, include the materials and dimensions. For example Oil on Canvas, 12x36; Charcoal on Paper, 8x10; or Photograph, 8x10.
Deadline for submissions is Oct. 15. The commission will review all submissions and finalists will be presented to the mayor, who will then select those whose work will be displayed.
Selection notifications will be sent out by Oct. 27 and hanging will run from Nov. 1 through Nov. 7.
