NEW BRITAIN - A new exhibit opens at the Central Connecticut State University Art Gallery today titled “Blazing on the Pinnacles and Minarets and Balanced Rocks.”

The exhibit presents current work by New York and Los Angeles-based artists Joeun Aatchim, Andy Giannakakis, Oliver Jones, Mary Kate Maher, Leeza Meksin, Bayne Peterson, and Anne Vieux.

The opening reception runs from 6 to 8 p.m. in the gallery located on the second floor of Maloney Hall. There will also be an artist talk at 5 p.m.

According to the exhibit’s description, the artwork presented uses various materials and design strategies to reflect the anthropological, post-industrial and aesthetic perspectives on the environment to show how contemporary artists navigate work on nature.

The exhibit’s title aims to “ascribe the sublime beauty and terror inherent in nature to cultural work on the environment.”

The exhibit will run through Nov. 16 with scheduled gallery hours from 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
