Lights, Santa on display at area weekend events

NEW BRITAIN-Christmas is just a few days away, but if you’re still not feeling festive here are things to do this weekend to put you in the holiday spirit.

Friday, Dec. 22

Holiday Lights at Lake Compounce – Bristol

Everyone’s go-to summer destination for fun gets transformed in the winter season with hundreds of thousands of bright lights covering the park and a 100-foot-tall Christmas tree. Every half hour a light show takes place set to favorite holiday classics. A selection of children and family rides will be operating as well as an opportunity to see Santa himself. The entertainment runs from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, and again on Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m. Admission is between $11.99 and $15.99, and children 3 and under get in for free. To purchase tickets visit

Santa Con at 75 Center – Southington

Nothing screams its Christmastime more than a bunch of drunken Santa’s crammed into a bar. 75 Center will host its own Santa Con from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. A DJ starts at 9 p.m. and a photo booth will be on site. There will be a late night food menu to fulfill your midnight cravings and 53 oz. holiday fishbowl cocktails to share with your friends. Best group costume (four or more) wins a gift card for $100.

Saturday, Dec. 23

Santa’s Workshop at the Diaspora Multicultural Society – New Britain

Children are welcomed to come to the Diaspora Multicultural Society at 90 John St. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to enjoy a day of free fun including activities, hot chocolate and gifts provided by Altrusa International Inc. of Greater Hartford. Pictures with Santa and other snacks will be optional and available for purchase.

Ugly Sweater Party at Firefly Hollow Brewing – Bristol

Dress in your ugliest Christmas sweater and join us for a fun night. We will be holding a contest for the ugliest sweater in the house. Get your last minute shopping done with local vendors on site. We will have gift baskets ready for grab and go with your favorite Firefly Hollow gear. The event is from noon to 9 p.m. at 139 Center St., Bristol.

Woody and Chuck book signing at Amato’s Toy & Hobby – New Britain

From 1 to 4 p.m. kids can meet the authors of “The Adventures of Woody and Chuck,” Jaime Vestergaard and Juan Goglia. Amato’s Toy & Hobby is located at 283 Main St.
