NEW BRITAIN - New Britain Pride, the city’s LGBT nonprofit organization, is kicking off its City of Pride initiative next month at Back Nine Tavern.

City of Pride is a fundraiser aimed to help fund the organization’s gay pride parade this summer.

“Over the last five months the executive committee has been working diligently to ensure that we are building name recognition and credibility within the community. I am thrilled and honored to chair such a fantastic organization as we head into our first major fundraising event,” said John Board, chairman of New Britain Pride.

New Britain Pride was formed in August 2017 as a nonpartisan organization with a goal of advocating for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community through celebrations and education.

The organization is planning a parade for June, Gay Pride Month.

“I am excited to co-host New Britain Pride’s ‘City of Pride’ fundraiser as the liaison to this community organization,” said Common Council Minority Leader Alderman Robert Smedley.

The City of Pride launch party will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, at the Back Nine Tavern, 245 Hartford Road. Tickets are $30 per adult and $15 per child.
