BERLIN - The Berlin-Peck Memorial Library has several events lined up this month. The library can be reached at 860-828-7126.

Understanding New Tax Changes: Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 6:30 p.m.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, signed into law in December 2017, has dramatically changed many of basic tax laws. Join Heidi Parchmann to learn about many of the changes everyone will likely encounter when sitting down to prepare their 2018 income tax returns.

Senior Center Book Club: Book Conversations: Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 1:30 p.m.

Join us for Book Conversations.” Share books you’ve read with the group. Maybe we’ll get suggestions for our next read.

Please note, this discussion takes place at the Berlin Senior Center, 33 Colonial Drive, Berlin rather than at the library.

Sit & Knit: Thursday, Dec. 6 and 20 at 6 p.m. and Dec. 13 ane 27 at 1 p.m.

Join local knitters for a relaxing time filled with knitting and good company.

Cookbook Club: Cookie Swap: Monday, Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Registration required. Bring 3-4 dozen cookies (please make only one kind of cookie), a container to bring cookies home and a copy of your recipe. Reserve a spot by registering here and then contact the reference desk with the type of cookie you will be making. We’ll play some festive music and have some juice while snacking on a few cookies. The library owns many great cookie cookbooks and we encourage you to use a recipe from one of these books.

Stock Club: Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 1:30 P.M.

Gift Wrapping Night: Drop In: Thursday, Dec. 13, 5:30 p.m.- 8 p.m. (Drop-in)

Take advantage of our large room and long tables to get all your gift wrapping done in one night! Bring your gifts and wrapping supplies; we’ll provide holiday music and some supplies (in case you forget yours). Our crafty crew will be there to teach you how to make a stunning bow* or a hand-stamped gift tag. *Please bring at least 1 spool of wire edged ribbon for each bow you’d like to make.

Ninth Annual Gingerbread Contest: Friday, Dec. 14 through 21

Create your own house and drop it off at the library between Friday, December 14 - Monday, December 17 (please note we are closed Sunday). There will be 2 categories: “Child” (individual child or groups of children under 10) and “Other”, which includes families, groups or any entry for someone over 10. Entries will be displayed throughout the week of December 17th. Patrons can vote for their overall favorite from December 17-December 20. Voting can be done in person at the library or online. Movie Matinee: Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again: Friday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m.

Movie description: Five years after the events of Mamma Mia! (2008), Sophie prepares for the grand reopening of the Hotel Bella Donna as she learns more about her mother’s past. Rated PG-13. Movie length: 1 hour, 54 mins. Movie released in 2018.

Movie Matinee: Christmas Train: Friday, Dec. 21 at 1 p.m.

Movie description: A cynical journalist decides to take a train from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles for Christmas to get inspiration for a story in honor of his late father. He gets to know the other passengers and runs into an old flame while aboard. Rated TV-G. Movie length: 1 hour, 26 minutes. Movie released in 2017.
