Free organ concert Sunday at Church of Christ, Congregational

NEW BRITAIN - First Church of Christ, Congregational will host a free organ concert Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

The concert is open to the public. Francesco Blackmore, an organist, will be the performer, offering an organ recital on the church’s three-manual, 54-rank Austin pipe organ. Blackmore will feature music by classical composers including Bach, Domenico Zipoli, Nicolaus Bruhns and Marc-Antoine Charpentier.

According to First Church’s Director of Music Ministries, James Gower, Blackmore is a senior at Central Connecticut State University. He is a student in the music department pursuing a major in composition.

He is also an organ student with Ezequiel Menendez of The Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford.

Before the performance, there will be a continental breakfast, starting at 11 a.m. in the church’s Fireside room. Parking will be available in the church’s parking lot.

First Church of Christ, Congregational offers other activities throughout the year including the blessing of the animals, an advent workshop and Rally Sunday, among others.
