NEW BRITAIN - Children and adults, experienced and inexperienced, are encouraged to attend auditions being held by the Connecticut Theatre Company on July 14 and 15 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. for the musical comedy “Disaster.”

Auditions and performances will be held at the Repertory Theatre of New Britain, 23 Norden St.

“The audition is to cast the show,” Erin Campbell, president of the board of the Connecticut Theatre Company, said. “There’s all different parts available, from reading roles to ensemble, so once we cast the show, then we go into the rehearsal process which depending on the show is anywhere from 2 to 2 1/2 months and then once we finish the rehearsal process, then that’s when the show is mounted and everything goes up.”

“Disaster” will be performed from Oct. 11 to Oct. 27.

“Disaster” is a musical comedy that takes place on a ship while disasters such as earthquakes and tidal waves start to happen.

“There’s all different types of people,” Campbell said. “There’s a faded disco star, a sexy night club singer, 11-year-old twins, an older couple, young guys, a businessman and a nun with a gambling addiction.”

The show incorporates about seven songs from the 1970s and 1980s, Campbell said.

“It’s a bunch of music that everybody already knows,” Campbell said. “It’s just kind of displayed in a different method.”

The show will have a band on stage accompanying the songs.

“We encourage everybody to audition,” Campbell said. “We can’t always cast every single person that comes out to audition but always looking for all different types of people so it doesn’t really matter if you are experienced or inexperienced, there could be a part for you no matter what based off of how your audition goes and things like that so we always encourage everybody to come out.”

The Connecticut Theatre Company is also preparing to perform “Memphis,” a show that opens July 26 and runs for four weekends on Fridays and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. There is no Sunday performance on the first weekend.
