BERLIN –– The Berlin Police Department Honor Guard will host its annual memorial ceremony honoring the late Berlin police Officer Jeffery Casner.

The ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Casner’s grave, near the entrance to Maple Cemetery on Worthington Ridge.

Following the ceremony, the recipient of the 2016 Jeffery Casner Award for excellence in DUI enforcement will be honored.

This year’s recipient is Officer Thomas Blake, who in 2016 made eight DUI arrests, a figure representing 19 percent of the total DUI arrests made by the Berlin Police Department last year.

The annual spring ceremony marks the winter anniversary of Casner’s death.

He was 22 years old when he was struck and killed by a drunk driver on the Berlin Turnpike on Feb. 2, 1985.

The public is welcome to attend the ceremony.
