BERLIN - The Berlin High School Redcoats will become Dredcoats in the middle October for one evening.
The Berlin High School Athletic Department is hosting the inaugural Dredcoat Fun Run and Glow Run on Friday, Oct. 13 at Sage Park, 1499 Berlin Turnpike, between 7 and 10 p.m.
“Participants will take a 1.25 mile enchanted journey through the confines of Sage Park.” a flyer for the run stated. “Dress in your festive best and be prepared for hidden surprises along the way!”
Heat 1 of the run will begin at 7:20 p.m. Heats will follow every eight minutes with 30 participants per heat.
Before the run there will be a .5 mile “Glow Run” for those age 1 and under. The Glow Run will begin at 7 p.m.
There will also be a tea cup raffle with prizes including a four-pack of complimentary tickets to Berlin High School varsity sports all year, a ring from Dynasty Jewlry, Hartford Wolf Pack tickets, a signed baseball by Matt Carasiti, who is trying to make the Chicago Cubs 40-man roster in the Major League of Baseball and more. Music will be playing and the concession stand will be open, said Berlin Schools Athletic Director Jeff Mauri.
Registration fees for the Dredcoat Run are $20 and for the Glow Run are $10. Participants can register at the door or in advance online at https://berlinredcoats.ludus.com/. All proceeds will benefit the Berlin Public Schools Athletic Department.
The first 250 registrants for the Dredcoat Run will receive a free t-shirt and each participant of the glow run will receive a free glow stick and redcoat bracelet to run with.
“We’re trying to get something community wide,” said Mauri. “Really just creating something through athletics where we can get the whole community (involved).”
The Berlin High School Athletic Department asks that participants not bring any items resembling weapons of any kind.
