BERLIN - More than 20 vendors will be at A.S. Labieniec on Saturday as part of the business’s grand re-opening and shop small event.
For almost 130 years A.S. Labieniec has been a part of the Berlin community - most notably at the red barn on Farmington Avenue - selling pet foods, pet supplies, farm and feed supplies, lawn and garden supplies, and wild bird seed.
After the Labieniec family sold the business in 2004, the owner at the time moved the location down the street to 817 Farmington Ave.
Once John and Joyce Connery purchased A.S. Labieniec in 2015, it was their goal to bring it back to the red barn.
“I used to work for the (Labieniec) family. That’s how I met my wife, she was a customer of mine. So it’s very special to us,” John Connery said.
The Connerys renovated the barn, but still kept the “old time” feel to it for guests to still be able to reminisce.
All are welcomed to attend the event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 945 Farmington Ave.
Kids will be entertained with small animals from Hungerford Park, pumpkin painting, a bounce house and face painting.
For furry guests there will be dog and cat vendors include Merrick, Canidae, Redbarn, Stella Chewy, Legend, NaturVet, Weruva, NutriSource and Kurgo. There will also be a clearance sale on pet food and toys.
Food trucks will also be on site as well as raffles to benefit the Connecticut Humane Society.
Many of the vendors that will be present come from the Berlin and Newington area and will sell an assortment of goods such as crafts and jewelry, among many other things. The Kensington Fire Department will give fire prevention tips as part of Fire Prevention Week.
