BERLIN - House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz is running for re-election as state representative from the 30th District, which includes most of Berlin and part of Southington.

“I was up in the air whether I’d seek re-election or not, but through the budget process, as painful as it was, when we came out with a bipartisan agreement that we all took our political parties off and actually worked as team, inspired me of what we could do in the coming years,” said Aresimowicz, a Democrat. “So, I’m really running for re-election to continue the bipartisan growth.”

According to documents filed with the State Elections Enforcement Commission on Nov. 29, Aresimowicz's funding will come through a committee called “Friends of A-Z.” Tony D’Angelo, of Plantsville, is treasurer and Jeffrey Greenfield, of West Hartford, is deputy treasure.

No other candidates for the seat have yet filed paperwork.

“It was hard, it was hard,” said Areismowicz on the budget process. “But I don’t mind hard work. It was emotional and I took a lot of shots from people, but in the end, the bipartisan way that’s never been done before in the state of Connecticut has inspired me that we can do more of it. . I think we can change the political landscape forever in the state of Connecticut.”

He first was elected to the legislature in 2004 and after election to his fifth term, his colleagues elected him majority leader through the 2016 session.

Following election to his sixth term, he was elected speaker, the top-ranking official in the House, presiding over the entire chamber and moderating debate. He will be looking to continue as speaker if re-elected.

“The more I listen to the residents and the little things they give me for ideas, like today. We put them into place and it inspires me” said Aresimowicz following a recent coffee hour at Uncle D’s Diner.

The election is set for Nov. 6, 2018.
