BERLIN - Crews responded to a water main break on the corner of Robindale Drive and Hart Street in Berlin on Tuesday.

The break was reported just before midnight Monday and crews were still on scene until 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dave Potanka of the Kensington Fire District said.

Another water main break happened on Robindale Drive Sunday night, on the corner of Glen Street.

“Unfortunately it’s the cold wreaking havoc,” said Potanka. He added that the incidents were unrelated.

Potanka said that, without any snow on the ground, which provides insulation, water pipes are more vulnerable to breaking. The need for continuous salt and sand to keep Robindale Drive open and drivable during the leak is what led to the over-13-hour work session on Tuesday.

Bristol has had seven water main breaks within the past month.

About 15 to 20 people were affected by each water main break but all residents should have running water again, Potanka said.
