Update: Two injured in 2-car accident on Berlin Turnpike near Casa Mia at the Hawtorne

BERLIN - A people were injured after a two-car crash in the northbound lane of the Berlin Turnpike at the intersection of New Park Drive this afternoon. near Casa Mia at the Hawthorne, 2421 Berlin Turnpike.

A commercial van headed northbound around 12:26 p.m. collided with a pickup truck that was headed southbound and making a left turn onto New Park Drive, Deputy Chief Christopher Ciuci said.

Both drivers were taken to area hospitals by ambulance. Their condition is unknown. Witnesses at the scene told police the van ran a red light, Ciuci said. The driver of the pickup truck had a green light when he made the left turn, Ciuci said. The investigation into the crash is continuing, he said.

Traffic was at a standstill for at least a half mile in the north bound lanes until the crash was cleared about an hour later.
