Berlin Town Council member charged with DWI

BERLIN -- Democratic Town Councilor JoAnn Angelico-Stetson was charged with a DWI and failure to signal Saturday morning at 12:28 a.m. , according to Berlin police.

Angelico-Stetson, 56, of East Berlin, received the charge in the southbound lane of the Berlin Turnpike at the intersection of Middletown Road, according to the arrest summary.

Angelico-Stetson, failed to signal twice while making a left turn and further investigation revealed that she was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, the summary stated.

No property loss or injuries occurred, according to the summary.

No blood-alcohol content level was included in the summary.

"I am aware but have no comment," said Mayor Mark Kaczynski on Saturday .

Acting Democratic Town Committee Chair Kathy O'Donnell-Moss was not aware of the incident and had no comment.

Angelico-Stetson was elected to the council in the November 2017 municipal elections. She served on the Board of Education and Economic Development Commission prior to be elected to the council.

Angelico-Stetson was released on a $500 non-surety bond. She is due in New Britain Superior Court on  Jan. 17.

Angelico-Stetson did not return a request for comment.
