Wednesday deadline for Berlin VFW scholarship essays

BERLIN - The Berlin VFW is accepting essay applications for three $1,000 scholarships for graduating seniors with a deadline of Wednesday, May 23.

The essay questions consist of, “Why did you choose your course of study? What do you hope to achieve in life as a result? How would this scholarship help you achieve your goals?”

The application also asks for any previous or current employment, part or rull time, including summer jobs; any community work performed through clubs, hospitals, volunteer work etc.; any participation in school activities through clubs, sports, music, theater, etc.

The requirements are applicants must be a resident of Berlin, a graduating senior from a secondary school, high school, private or parochial school; continuing post-secondary education in an accredited university, college, community college or vocational-technical institute.

Applications can be picked up from the guidance office at Berlin High School, said Bill Hamel, vice president of the Berlin VFW.

An official school transcript must be attached with the application and mailed to the Berlin Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 10732 Scholarship, PO Box 7025, Berlin, CT, 06037.

Applications will remain confidential within the Berlin VFW Scholarship Committee.
