BERLIN - Police department and Central Pizza will be having a “Tip a Cop” event at Central Pizza tonight (Wednesday) from 5 to 8 p.m. to support D.A.R.E. officer training.

The event works by having Detective Ted Fuini, D.A.R.E. coordinator, and a couple of the other D.A.R.E. officers, receiving and serving orders alongside the Central Pizza wait staff, Fuini said.

Tips will be given to the wait staff, “for putting up with us,” and their work, said Fuini, and then anything more than a tip go toward fundraising for the training of the Berlin police D.A.R.E. officers, Fuini said.

The officers will explain the D.A.R.E. program, which stands from Drug Abuse Resistance Education, and aims to provide kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs and violence, according to the town website.

“How often do you have the opportunity to (have) your dinner served by the police?,” said Jaymee Wright Miller of the town’s social services department, which works closely with the police department.

Central Pizza is located at 96 Mill St.
