BERLIN – According to a report on WFSB’s website late Tuesday, Berlin teacher Michael Cwirka, 29, has been arrested on allegations he engaged in sex with a student.
He was charged with three counts of second-degree sexual assault and five counts of fourth-degree sexual assault.
He was a math teacher and swim coach. In the arrest warrant, the victim who was a senior and turned 18 at one point during the school year, said their relationship started in February of last year and lasted until November.
The Herald reported in February that Cwirka of Meriden was put on administrative leave with pay by the Berlin School District, pending the outcome of the investigation.
Cwirka also served as a junior class advisor youth and government advisor, according to his personnel file.
