BERLIN - A utility pole snapped in half Wednesday night when a car drove into it, fire officials said. No one was injured, but about 100 customers briefly lost power.

The Berlin Volunteer Fire Department responded to the area of Christian Lane and Deming Road around 9 p.m., Chief Dave Pethigal said Thursday.

The driver was out of the car by the time firefighters arrived, Pethigal said. The driver, who was the only occupant of the car, refused medical treatment, he added.

The impact with the pole left the vehicle with front-end damage to the vehicle, Pethigal said. A section of the pole fell on top of the car, damaging the roof and blowing out the windows, he added.

The driver was issued a summons for driving under the influence and failure to stay in the proper lane.

The pole was replaced and power restored by 10:30 p.m., Eversource said.
