NEW BRITAIN – Special elections are being held today in several Connecticut districts including state Senate District 6 which encompasses New Britain, Berlin and part of Farmington. Polls opened at 6 a.m. this morning, but voter turnout has been very light.

The District 6 state Senate seat became vacant in January when former Democratic state Sen. Terry Gerratana accepted a role as an adviser in Gov. Ned Lamont’s administration.

Running for the seat are Republican Gennaro Bizzarro and Democrat Rick Lopes.

The polls close at 8 p.m. tonight.
