BERLIN-The East Berlin Volunteer Fire Company will be hosting a seminar series fundraiser on Saturday August 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The day will consist of a breakfast of coffee and pastries, a BBQ lunch and three guest speakers.

The first speaker is Bobby Eckert, a Fire Captain from Camden, New Jersey, who will be delivering his Urban Engine Playbook Class.

Eckert will be followed by retired Deputy Chief Leigh H. Shapiro of the Hartford Fire Department who will deliver his seminar on Critical Thinking for Fire Officer Development.

After lunch, Lt. Michael Scotto, MEP for the FDNY, will be giving his Top Floor Fires Class to end the day.

This will be the first annual Summer Seminar, according to Lieutenant Matthew Holmes, who had the idea for the event.

Holmes said that other than the Berlin fair, the Fire Company had no fundraisers before the creation of the Summer Seminar.

The target audience for the event is fire crew personnel from all across the region.

Holmes believes this type of education will be a welcomed break from the usual training.

“It’ll be nice to sit down inside and learn from very knowledgeable speakers,” Holmes said.

Tickets can be purchased at the door, or online though a link on their Facebook page.

The event will take place rain or shine at the East Berlin Fire House at 80 Main St, East Berlin.
