BERLIN - Police were able to get some unusual help in trying to identify a biker who crashed his motorcycle Tuesday evening.
The police department posted on its Facebook page sketches of the man involved in the crash drawn by children who were playing in the neighborhood and saw the accident.
The police thanked the children in the post.
“Thanks to Myla, Joyce and Julian for their investigative assistance.”
The unidentified injured man ran from an accident in front of the Berlin Village Homes on the Berlin Turnpike early Tuesday evening.
The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. in front of 501 Berlin Turnpike.
The man crashed his motorcycle on the northbound side of the road with no other vehicle involved, police said. He then saw police coming from the opposite direction, police said, and took off running.
The extent of his injuries was unclear but he had blood on his face, it was reported. He was seen running into a wooded area, police said.
Police started clearing the scene around 8 p.m., saying they had exhausted all resources in searching for the man.
A police K9 was brought in to search the area, but the man was not located.
Police took possession of the motorcycle. Fire crews responded to the scene during the search.
On the department’s Facebook page, police wrote: “If anyone recognizes the man from these detailed drawings, please call Berlin Police at 860-828-7082.”
