Two Berlin police officers to receive rank promotions

BERLIN-Two members of the Police Department will be receiving rank promotions at a ceremony on Monday, Aug. 26.

Sgt. Shawn Solek will be promoted to the rank of lieutenant, and Officer Rob Martin will be promoted to the rank of sergeant.

The decision was made at the Police Commission’s special meeting on Aug. 14 where the commission voted unanimously to promote the two.

Solek has served with the Berlin Police Department for almost 12 years where he served various positions from patrol officer to detective and for the past five years as a sergeant assigned to the Operations Division.

Solek also serves as a firearms and taser instructor, field training officer, domestic violence liaison and member of the ATV unit and Honor Guard.

Prior to his employment with the town, Shawn served with the Army National Guard for six years during which time he was deployed to Afghanistan.

Martin has served with the Berlin Police Department for almost five years and before that the New Britain Police Department for twenty-one years.

Martin has also serves as a firearms instructor and field training officer, as well as a field training officer instructor, crash reconstructionist and certified arson investigator.

The ceremony will take place at the Berlin Town Hall, 240 Kensington Road, on Monday beginning at 6:30 p.m.
