BERLIN – Kids can look forward to another fun safe summer at Camp Thundermoon.
Online registration opened April 3 and in person registration by appointment only started Monday.
“While our camp may look a little different, and activities may be adapted to adhere to new social distancing regulations, there is still fun, creativity, friendship and laughter waiting to be experienced,” according to the YMCA website.
Camp Thundermoon will continue to follow all local, state and federal safety guidelines.
Group sizes may now be 20 as of March 16. The state has licensed the camp for 200 campers, but the number that will be on site will depend on the number of registrants.
“Our location has enough space and walking areas within the spaces we will be using to meet the current CDC guidelines of enhanced social distancing and restricting mixing of groups,” the YMCA said.
The camp will continue to do temperature checks, although they are no longer required for the protection of campers, and staff and counselors will stay with same group of children all day. There will be safety and directional signage throughout camp. Staff will be using all necessary PPE, hand sanitizing stations will be put throughout the camp, and frequent hand washing will be required.
The traditional camps will use outdoor space and have their own tent, picnic tables, field space and port-o-lets. They will rotate through camp activities while following social distance guidelines.
The specialty camps will use indoor classroom space due the nature of the specialized camp, and will use designated outdoor space when needed and have use of indoor bathrooms.
Each group will have their own art supplies and sports equipment.
Before and after care campers will be assigned to groups with other before and after care campers
Due to the safety guidelines there will be no bus service for New Britain families and there will be no busing offsite for field trips or swimming. Camp will be a drop off and pick up program with staggered times for each grade level.
