BERLIN -- Police believe they have identified the suspect in an assault that took place at a local pizza restaurant.
Chris Ciuci, acting chief of the Berlin Police Department, said early Wednesday that officers received multiple tips following the widespread sharing of a photo of the suspect on Tuesday.
“We’d like to thank all our media partners for sharing the picture and bringing more attention to the incident because we received several tips yesterday that were followed up on and have led to the probable identity of the suspect,” Ciuci said.
The acting chief went on to say that the investigation is ongoing, adding that police will apply for an arrest warrant once probable cause is established.
Police on Tuesday released photos of the suspect in the assault incident, which took place on Saturday, around 9:45 p.m., at Central Pizza, located at 96 Mill St.
Ciuci said the woman in the photo allegedly assaulted a customer at the restaurant. The incident was caught on video and shared widely over social media, Ciuci added.
In the video, the suspect can be heard accusing someone of wearing a fake military uniform.
Additional details of the incident have not been released.
Berlin police on Wednesday did not release the identity of the suspect.
