NEWINGTON -- Police are investigating after a car was shot up outside a local motel on Sunday -- the second shooting on the Berlin Turnpike in as many weeks and the third in the area.

Police said the most recent incident occurred at the Grantmoor Motor Lodge, located at 3000 Berlin Turnpike, around 5 a.m. Officers were called on the report of shots fired in the area.

Police who responded found that an unoccupied vehicle in the Grantmoor parking lot had sustained multiple bullet holes from a firearm.

No injuries were reported.

Police on Monday did not release additional details. They are asking that anyone with information contact Det. Kathleen Kelliher at 860-594-6249.

The shooting Sunday comes after Newington police on Nov. 22 said two motorists on the Berlin Turnpike, at the Pane Road intersection, were involved in a shooting. In that incident, witnesses told officers they observed someone from one vehicle fire shots at another vehicle as the motorists were both headed north.

No injuries were reported in the November shooting. Witnesses told police the motorists went their separate ways after the shots were fired.

Additionally, Berlin police said a shooting in their town occurred on Thursday. This incident also involved two motorists. The occupant of the car that was shot at did not report any injuries.

Police said the Berlin incident took place on High Road -- which, according to Google Maps, is about 3.5 miles away from the Berlin Turnpike.

Newington police on Monday did not give any indication that any of the recent shooting incidents are related.
