BERLIN – Kids who love painting and dancing or who might want to explore these activities have an opportunity to do so in the Berlin Community Center this winter.
Registration has already begun for two different dance classes, both taught by instructor Elizabeth Cook-Asal.
“Exploring Dance” is designed for children ages 3 to 5 and features creative movement incorporating moves from ballet, tap and jazz. This 30-minute class is set to take place Saturdays, Jan. 29 through March 12 from 9:30 to 10 a.m., with no class Feb. 19. The cost is $45 per resident or $55 per non-resident.
Dance Elements for children ages 5 to 8 will focus on ballet and tap technique and teach the fundamentals of jazz and modern dance. This is also a Saturday class, running from Jan. 29-March 12 from 10:15 to 11 a.m., with no class Feb. 19. This program costs $60 per resident or $70 for non-residents.
For the visual artists in the family, “Painting with Peggy” offers three different sessions for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade. Instructor Peggy Loehr will guide participants through painting their own masterpieces, each having to do with a different holiday.
On Saturday, Feb. 12 from 10-11 a.m. Valentine’s Day will be featured. Then on Saturday, March 12 from 10-11 a.m. it’s all about painting St. Patrick’s Day. Finally, on Saturday, April 12 from 10-11 a.m. the theme will be Easter.
The cost to attend is $15 per resident, per program or $25 for non-residents.
Register for any of the above programs at berlinct.gov through the Berlin Parks and Recreation Department’s WebTrac system. Face masks are currently required of all class participants.
