Sports Roundup: Berlin baseball loses a slugfest to Sheehan, Newington gets easy win over Platt

BERLIN - The Berlin baseball team was involved in a wild game against Sheehan on Friday afternoon that went nine innings and saw 21 combined runs and 33 combined hits. The Redcoats came out on the short side of the result as the Titans scored a run in the ninth off of Dan Valdesi to win the game.

Berlin started off the game by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning and took a commanding 10-3 lead entering the top of the seventh, with a seven-run sixth inning. Sheehan responded with seven runs in the top of the seventh though, to tie the score and bring the game to extras.

The Redcoats had six extra-base hits in the game and were led by Cody Lacasse who finished the contest with three hits, including two triples. Also of note was Adam Willametz, who went 2-6 with two doubles and Gianni Fanelli, who went 2-4 with a double.

Newington 12, Platt 2: The Newington baseball team had the same amount of hits (6) as Platt on Friday but it was able to capitalize on its opportunities and win comfortably 12-2. The Panthers committed four errors which aided the Indians offense. Newington put up double-digit runs in four separate innings and Cooper Johnson had a two-run double among his two hits. Jordan Blanchette came away with the win for the Indians as he allowed two runs in the third and nothing else.
