The All-Herald Girls Tennis Team is one full of talent, and the five players on our list have shown they can compete not just in conference play, but in the state tournaments as well.
Berlin finished the regular season with a 10-6 record to make the Class M tournament for the second year in a row. After a solid season, the Redcoats placed two on our team. The first is Jasmine Nappi, who has established herself as one of the best players in the area. Berlin’s No. 1 singles player finished her junior year with a 14-1 record and an appearance in the State Open. Nappi earned All-CCC recognition. With another year to go, her senior season could be even better.
Bridget Fox has been a staple of consistency for Berlin. A four-year varsity player, the senior earned herself her third consecutive all-conference honor, making the state tournament as an individual this past season. Her play on the court also earned her the Redcoat Award for tennis. A winner of the Presidential Award and an honor roll student, Fox will be attending Marist College starting this fall.
Plainville saw a four-win improvement this season, going 10-6, and a big reason for that was the play of No. 2 singles player Erin Brochu. The senior finished out her final season with the Blue Devils with an unbeaten record, earning her both a spot in the State Open and on the all-conference team. As such, she earned her team’s MVP award. Also a strong student, Brochu was all-academic this past season. She will be off to UConn in the fall.
Abby Murphy is the youngest player on our team. Only a freshman, Southington’s No. 2 singles player had an outstanding season. Murphy finished with a 14-2 record, helping the Blue Knights reach the Class L quarterfinals, and made it to the second round of the State Open tournament. Her play on the court also earned her an All-CCC nod. With three seasons of high school still to go, expect Murphy to not only be a candidate to make the All-Herald Team in the coming years, but her list of awards to grow.
New Britain’s Celeste Gigliotti is the final member of our team. The Hurricanes made a return to the Class L tourney and Gigliotti was consistently among the team’s top players, capturing plenty of wins in her senior season.
