STAFF REPORT

NEW BRITAIN - The New Britain-Berlin YMCA is taking registration for its pre-swim team.

The pre-swim team bridges the gap between swim lessons and a competitive swim team, allowing kids to develop their strokes and gain a greater understanding of how a real swim team operates. While this is a non-competitive program, kids will be encouraged to grow in distance, stamina, speed, breathing technique, stroke development and teamwork. Begin as early as possible, both the pre-team and swim team accept children beginning at age 5.

Some requirements for joining the pre-swim team include prior swimming experience, ability to swim without an instructor, ability to float (front and back), ability to tread water, general knowledge of all four strokes, able to swim 1-2 full lengths of the pool., understands safety awareness in the water, able to kick with a kickboard (front and back) and be able to demonstrate respect to the coach and other team members.

The pre-swim team will run from Oct. 2 to Nov. 8 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. The fee for members is $50. For non-members it is $65.
