Area athletes named to CCC all-conference teams

NEW BRITAIN - The Central Connecticut Conference revealed its all-conference selections for the 2017 fall season this week.

In total, 27 football players from the area were selected.

Berlin led all local teams with nine selections. Making the list for the Redcoats were Greg Carson, Kevin Dunn, Alexander Halkias, Zachary Hrubiec, James Mazzarella, Nick Paszczuk, Larry St. Pierre Jr., Giancarlo Tufano and Matthew Wojciechowski.

Southington had eight players chosen for the all-conference team. The Blue Knights named Will Barmore, J.J. Clark, Ian Hall, Joe Koczera, Jake Monson, Ryan Montalvo, Tim O’Shea, Sam Thomson and Jimmy Starr.

New Britain and Plainville each had five players chosen for the all-conference team. The Hurricanes placed Jenson Cartegna, Jacob Clark, Juliana Morales, Shawn Robinson and Tajah Yopp; while Brady Callahan, Frank Griffin, Sam Lestini, Jason Mills and Ben Root made it from the Blue Devils.

Newington had four players making the list: Connor Brennan, Carlum Caldwell, Luke Pappalardo and Damon Stewart.

Five runners were selected from the area as all-conference for the 2017 boys cross country season.

Southington led all local teams with four selections. Making the list for the Blue Knights were Conner Leone, Shane Leone, Matthew Penna and Sean Young.

Berlin had one runner chosen for the all-conference team, Michael Parzych.

In girls cross country, seven runners from the area were chosen. Southington led all local teams with four runners, including Isabella Scalise, Natalie Adamczyk, Kate Kemnitz and Sarah Minkiewicz.

Berlin had three runners making the all-conference team: Juliana Cancellier, Megan Perrotta and Madison Marolda.

Southington and Newington field hockey both had players selected for the all-conference team. The Blue Knights placed Madeline Belfonti, Emma Doran, Jessica Pesce and Jenna Sheehan. For the Indians, Maya Gajowiak made the list.

The Berlin girls soccer team led all area teams with five selections for the all-conference team. Making the list for the Redcoats were Lexi Kavarasky, Amy Kuckel, Cameron Michalek, Lindsay Walsh and Julia Sisti.

Newington and Southington each had multiple players chosen for the all-conference team. The Indians’ selections were Skylar Couliard, Abby Malloy, Olivia Mullings and Zoe Walk, while Abby Connolly, Emma Panarella and Alijah Vega were picked for the Blue Knights.

Plainville’s Litzy Cruz and Hannah Zelasko were also selected for all-conference, as well as New Britain’s Mya Mlynarska.

In total, 18 boys soccer players from the area were chosen for all-conference. Plainville led the area with five selections: Jake Hillburn, Dane Stephens, Mikey Torres, Patryk Wronowski and Sergio Zalvadar; while Berlin’s Curtis Arcari, Ryan Jenkins, Jack Nelson, Joe Pettinelli and Noah Silverman were picked.

Southington and Newington also had players picked: Hermish Adasrkwah, Trey Sadler, Aslan Tate and Hayden Burbank for the Indians; and Evan Dadonna and Kiernan Tindall for the Blue Knights.

New Britain’s Hector Figueroa and Adam Gottner were also named all-conference.

Area girls volleyball teams had 11 players chosen for all-conference. New Britain, Newington and Southington each had three players named: for the Hurricanes, Nariely Andujar, Raven Jarrett and Nelanie Velez; for the Indians, Yasmin Rincon, Meghan Roberts and Blayne Wanner-Hyde; and for the Blue Knights, Nolyn Allen, Hannah Zelina and Steph Zera.

Berlin’s Libby Arorian and Alyssa Dumont also made the list for all-conference.
