Sports Roundup: Strong defensive efforts lead Innovation girls basketball to victory

BLOOMFIELD - The Innovation girls basketball team had strong defensive efforts helping it win 41-18 Wednesday evening against MLC.

Bailee Nardi led in scoring for the Ravens with 11 points while teammate Christina Nazario-fernandez had 11.

Nazario-fernandez also had nine rebounds and six steals while Nardi had eight rebounds.

Aryanna Townsend had eight rebounds, five assists, eight steals and eight points. In total the Ravens had 21 steals on the evening.


Bristol Eastern 71, Plainville 3: The Plainville wrestling team fell 71-3 Wednesday evening against Bristol Eastern. Plainville’s only match that was won was the 132 pounder. Sebastian Soli pinned Eastern’s Gabriel Soucy in 53 seconds.

Hall 39, Newington 34: The Newington wrestling team fell short 39-34 to Hall Wednesday evening.

The Indians’ Aidan Corrieau had a fort fit during the 113-pound match. Jacob Zotti won by decision, 9-5 against Hall’s Natan Cohen in the 126-pound match. David Robinson had a fort fit in the 145-pound match and in the 160-pound match Matthew Buslewicz pinned Chin Oshewoquiz. Lastly, in the 285-pound match Wyatt Bernard pinned Halls Mehmet Kaya.

Platt 63, Berlin 13: Berlin’s Josh Veleas had a big night as he earned his 100th win for the Redcoats in a decision 7-3 against Platt’s Zavian Arroyo. Josh Veleas is currently undefeated at 5-0 and a two-time state place winner.

Alongside Josh Veleas, teammate Josh Veleas also had a satisfying night, winning a major decision 13-2 against Platt’s Rulas Santebelle. The rest of the evening was rocky for Berlin wrestling as they fell to Platt 63-13.
