WINDHAM - While it was an up-and-down day for the Berlin wrestling team in terms of record at the Windham dual, there were far more positives than negatives.

The Redcoats split their four matches at the Windham Duals to go 2-2 on the day as they first fell to host Windham 60-18, beat East Lyme 54-24, lost to E.O. Smith 36-29 and topped Fitch 48-30.

There were also plenty of quality individual performances from Berlin along the way. Both the Veleas brothers finished their days going 4-0, Dan in the 132-pound weight class, while Josh did so at 170. The wins also moved Josh Veleas to 9-0 on the season.

“Both Veleases have stepped up not only just in terms of competitive success, but with their leadership as well,” Berlin head coach Jim Day said.

Noah Cintron (108 pounds), Jacob Sparks (140) and Matt Schlien (182) both went 3-1; Nate Orde (120) and Aiden O’Connor (195) went 2-0; Josh Wood (152) and Mike Riveria won their only match of the day; Josh Bois went 2-2 at 128 pounds; and Tyler Barber went 1-1 at 120.
