Sports Roundup: Berlin boys basketball wins close game over Maloney

NEW BRITAIN - The Berlin boys basketball team won a close one against Maloney 61-55.

Mike McCarthy led the way for the Redcoats with 24 points in the contest.

Holden Murphy and Gianni Fanelli were each in double dights.

Murphy had 15 points and Fanelli finished with 12 points.

Murphy had eight rebounds and Ryan Hyde eight assists.

Berlin moved to 4-2 on the season.


New Britain wrestling finished 3-1 at the Killingly Duals, finishing in third place.

The Hurricanes first meet was against NFA and they lost 40-31.

Against East Catholic, New Britain won 58-30, highlighted by freshman Michael Martinez pinning his opponent in 19 seconds.

The Hurricanes faced East Catholic again following and won 68-19. Elijah Watson pinned his opponent eight seconds in.

In the third place match, New Britain faced RHAM and won 41-36.

Elijah Watson, Raul Mateo, Oran Burnett and Elijah Torres all finished 4-0 on the day.

Michael Martinez and Isahus Maldonado were 3-1.

The Hurricanes will face Newington at home on Wednesday.
