BERLIN - The host Berlin wrestling team, which entered the Art Powers Duals on Saturday with a 2-6 dual meet record, was able to go 4-0 and win a share of the title with Bristol Central.
The Redcoats won Pool A and Bristol Central won Pool B.
The Redcoats defeated RHAM, 57-24; Joel Barlow, 48-33; Bethel, 38-36; and finally East Catholic, 51-27.
Injuries and illness have plagued the Redcoats throughout the early season, but the team is starting to get healthy.
Moses Marino, a team captain, is back from an injury and was able to secure a big win against East Catholic by coming back and pinning his opponent in the final seconds of the match.
Jake Kaplan, at 115 pounds, is also back off injury and went 3-1 on the day, shoring up the lower weights for the Redcoats.
Dan and Josh Veleas, at 132 and 170, and Max Schlein, at 184, continued their strong seasons by going 4-0 on the day, each with three pins and a win by forfeit.
Other wins came from: Noah Cintron, 108, 3-1; Nate Orde, 122, 3-1; Tyler Barber, 128, 1-1; Josh Bois, 128, 1-1; Mike King, 138, 1-3; Mose Marino, 154, 2-2; Debby Malespini, 172, 1-2; Aiden O’Connor, 184, 1-0; Matt Pampuro, 197, 1-0; Mike Rivera, 222, 3-0; and Tyler Fushcino, 275, 1-0.
The coming week will see more wrestlers return to the lineup, which should make the Redcoats much more competitive.
