NEW BRITAIN - The Berlin girls basketball team got one win closer to the state tournament as the Redcoats earned their sixth win of the season.

It was a 24-point third quarter that proved to be the different in the game.

Ashley Wenzel had a game-high 25 points.

“Outstanding night by Ashley Wenzel,” Berlin head coach Sheila King said. “Great team effort and had an outstanding third quarter.”

The Redcoats held a 28-15 lead at the half.

“We just made some simple adjustments at halftime and executed them and kept up the defensive pressure which led to points on offense,” King said.

Lyzi Litwinko added 15 points for the Redcoats.

For New Britain, Inanna Rice had 13 points.

Berlin moved to 6-7 on the season and will travel to take on Sacred Heart Academy Saturday at 4 p.m.

The Hurricanes fell to 4-10 on the year and will host Bulkeley Tuesday at 6:45 p.m.
