NEW BRITAIN - The road to Ingalls Rink at Yale University is set.
The CIAC released the brackets for the boys ice hockey tournaments on Friday and all three of the New Britain area teams have learned what their paths to possible state titles will look like.
Hall-Southington, Newington-Berlin and Wethersfield-Middletown-Rocky Hill-Plainville all reached their respective state tournaments across Divisions II and III
After finishing their regular season with an 11-7-2 record, the Warrior-Knights earned the 13th seed in Division II and won’t have to travel far for its first-round matchup. Hall-Southington will play fourth-ranked Conard (11-8-1) at the teams’ home ice at Veteran’s Memorial Rink Tuesday at 8:10 p.m.
This game should be an interesting one as well apart from the usual rivalry.
It was in last Saturday’s game between the two that left Warrior-Knights’ senior captain Drew Booth severely injured. He had sustained two fractured eye sockets, a broken nose and lacerations to the face after what the team deemed a “cheap shot,” which later resulted in a six hour neurosurgery for the defenseman. That game ended in a 1-1 tie.
The Chieftains have had an up-and-down season, but will come into the matchup having won six of their last 11 games.
The winner of this game will face the winner of fifth-seeded North Branford (13-6-1)/12th-seeded East Haven-Old Lyme-Old Saybrook-East Hampton (9-10-1) on Friday.
WMRP finished its regular season 12-7-1, earning the seventh seed in Division III. The Eagles will host Brookfield-Bethel-Danbury Monday at 6:50 p.m.
BBD finished its season 7-12-1, earning the 10th seed. The IceCats are entering the tournament 1-7 over their last eight games.
If WMRP plays like they are capable of, they will then play the winner of No. 2 Enfield-East Granby-Stafford (12-7-1)/No. 15 Bolton-Coventry-Rockville (4-16-0) on Thursday.
The Indians sit right behind WMRP, coming into the tournament as the eighth seed.
Newington-Berlin finished its regular season 13-7-0 and will host No. 9 Housatonic-Northwestern-Wamogo (7-11-2) Monday at 8:05 p.m.
The winner of this game will then play the winner of the top-seeded Staples (12-5-3)/16th-seeded Masuk (4-16-0) on Thursday.
