BRISTOL - The Central Connecticut Conference will be expanding by one more team, following the Region 10 Board of Education’s decision last week to move Lewis Mills’ athletic programs from the Berkshire League to the CCC beginning in 2019-20.
The Spartans will be placed in the CCC South, joining area teams Bristol Eastern, Bristol Central, Plainville and Berlin, as well as Platt, Maloney and Middletown.
With the move, Lewis Mills will go from being the biggest school in the Berkshire League to the second smallest in the new division, after Plainville.
It also adds a fourth team to the Patriot Division of the CCC South.
“I’m happy that they’re in,” Bristol Central baseball coach Bunty Ray said. “It balances the league for us. Having a three-team division didn’t make any sense. It’s a positive addition for the league.”
In addition to regular games against CCC South Patriot Division foes Bristol Eastern, Bristol Central, Plainville, Lewis Mills will also have a number of crossover contests against Berlin, which is in the CCC South-Colonial.
