Berlin boys, girls golf sweeps Pisk Memorial Championship

NEW BRITAIN - Berlin High School successfully defended its titles to win both the Boys and Girls Divisions in the 2018 New Britain/Berlin Rotary Stan Pisk Memorial Championship Tuesday afternoon at Stanley Golf Course.

The Berlin boys were led by medalist John Downes who carded a one-over par 71 over the Blue and Red Nines. He was closely followed by team mates Mike McCarthy and Jacob Lindsay at 73.

Play is a team event between Berlin, Goodwin Tech and New Britain. The Hurricanes finished second and the Gladiators third.

The Berlin girls were led by medalist Bridget McQuillan at 47.

Cate Keitline from New Britain High was the girls closest to the pin and Jackie Cooper from Berlin won the Long Drive honors. In the boys division, Lindsay won both the long drive and closest to the pint.

The Stan Pisk Memorial Championship is a living Memorial is held in memory and in honor off the late Stanley L. “Stan” Pisk. Pisk was a former head professional at Stanley Golf course, New Britain High golf coach WWII Combat Veteran and a Member and Officer of New Britain/Berlin Rotary.

He is a member of The New Britain Sports Hall of Fame and the Connecticut Section PGA Hall of Fame. Over its long history, this Memorial has received local, national and international attention.

A special awards luncheon will be hosted next week by Rotary for the winning teams, their coaches and scholarship will be awarded to a student from each school that participated.

The awards luncheon will be in Parker Hall in the New Britain YMCA.
