HARWINTON - The Berlin boys golf team capped off a strong end to the season with a second-place finish at the Division II Golf State Championship Tuesday.
The Redcoats shot a 307 at Fairview Farm Golf Club. They came in 14 strokes behind Avon’s 293.
Berlin’s Jacob Lindsay had one of the strongest individual rounds, shooting an even-par 72, which was tied for second with two other golfers. It was also just one stroke worse than individual champion Michael Hanratty from Avon.
Mike McCarthy shot a five-over 77, good for a tie for 11th place with four other golfers.
Paul Calafore was right behind McCarthy, coming in 16th place with a 78.
Matt Czerepuszko came in 21st place overall, shooting an 80.
John Downes rounded out the Redcoats’ effort, shooting an 83, which tied for 30th place. All of the Berlin golfers finished in the top-third of the field.
The Southington boys golf team wrapped up their season Monday, finishing in a tie for 12th place at the Division I Golf State Championship, shooting a 328.
Greenwich took home the title with a 293 at Stanley Golf Course in New Britain.
Maxwell Chubet was the best Blue Knight of the day, shooting a seven-over 78, good for a tie for 27th place.
Berlin and Newington each competed in the girls State Championship on Tuesday.
The championship took place AT Tashua Knolls Golf Course in Trumbull.
Newington came in 15th out of 20 teams with a score of 406. Jessica Pierzchalski capped off her strong senior campaign with an 89, the best individual score for the Indians. She came in a tie for 24th overall.
Berlin came in just behind Newington. The Redcoats shot a 407, which tied Masuk for 16th place.
Senior Jackie Cooper finished her Redcoats career with a 92, good for 32nd out of 106 golfers.
