2018 All-Herald Girls Golf Team: Tremendous foursome shines bright on the links

There are plenty of familiar names on our All-Herald Girls Golf Team and it’s easy to see why. Each rose to the challenge and proved themselves to be some of the best in the region.

Newington continued to build on last season’s success and was the area’s top team once again, beating out Berlin by a single stroke in the state tournament. As a result of their strong year, the Indians place two on our team.

Chloe Bilodeau capped off her final season with a number of accolades. The senior finished her career at Newington with 13 match medals, seven of which came this year. Bilodeau’s strong play resulted in her fourth straight all-conference and academic all-conference selections. She also won the Indians’ MVP and Most Improved awards. In the postseason, Bilodeau tied for 10th in the CCC Championship and was a New England Championship qualifier. She will be attending UConn in the fall.

Her teammate, Jessica Pierzchalski, is no stranger to our team, making her second appearance. She not only earned all-CCC honors, but had the highest finish of Newington’s golfers at the state tournament, where she tied for 24th after shooting an 89.

It was an up-and-down season at times for Berlin, but the Redcoats had plenty of strong performances, most notably from standout Jackie Cooper. The senior lowered her differential from over nine to around eight and tied for 10th at the CCC Championship. She also had a top-35 finish at the state tournament.

After medaling in 10 of her team’s 16 conference matches, Cooper earned her third all-CCC selection, while qualifying for the New England Tournament for the second straight season. Cooper will be off to UConn in the fall and will be hoping to start a women’s golf club team.

New Britain’s Catherine Keithline is the lone newcomer to make our All-Herald squad. The senior was one of the Hurricanes’ co-captains and led the way in New Britain breaking its winless streak from a season ago.

Keithline consistently improved every season, and for a New Britain program still in the process of building, she will be tough to replace.
