MERIDEN - Maloney just didn’t have an answer for Gianni Fanelli or Holden Murphy.

Fanelli scored a game-high 23 points, while Murphy dropped 20 as the Berlin boys basketball team managed to overcome a sluggish first half to beat the Panthers 58-1-49 Monday night.

The seniors were the only two to finish in double figures for the Redcoats (4-2), the next highest scorer was Giancarlo Tufano with five points, but it hardly seemed to matter. Murphy scored 13 of his points in the second half with Fanelli scoring 17 over the final 16 minutes.

Vincent Martinez was the leading scorer for the Spartans with 17 points.

Innovation 57, Aerospace 26: Carlos Gonzalez scored 12 points and Ramiesh Bogle finished with 10 to lead the Ravens, but this game was all about the defense.

Innovation allowed just 12 points in the first half and didn’t allow Aerospace to hit double-digits in any quarter as it secured its seventh win of the season.

Hall 51, Southington 46: The Blue Knights were able to erase most of their seven-point, first-half deficit throughout the third quarter, but were unable to complete the comeback over the final eight minutes.

Down 35-34 heading into the fourth, Southington (3-5) was outscored 16-12.

Jacob Flynn was the Blue Knights’ leading scorer with 10 points. Jake Napoli and Colin Burdette each finished with nine.

Berlin 50, Maloney 21: It was another game for the Redcoats dominated.

Ashley Wenzel scored a game-high 16 points and Carly Grega finished with 10 as Berlin hit the 50-point mark for the seventh time in 10 games this season to move to 9-1.

This game was all but over by halftime. The Spartans finished with just eight total points in the first half and didn’t hit double digits in any quarter.
