Local athletes honored at CIAC annual Scholar-Athlete awards banquet

SOUTHINGTON - The CIAC held its annual Scholar-Athlete awards banquet on Sunday at the Aqua Turf Club, with many area athletes among the honorees.

The Scholar-Athlete Program annually recognizes two high school seniors, one boy and one girl, from every member high school, “whose academic and athletic careers have been exemplary, whose personal standards and achievements are a model to others, and who possess high levels of integrity, self-discipline and courage.”

The honorees for the 2018-19 school year included: Bristol Central’s Kiara Suazo and Pacifico Flores, Bristol Eastern’s Paige McLaughlin and Benjamin Wadowski, New Britain’s Maya Mlynarska and Danniel Rivera, Berlin’s Madison Monroe and Alexander Halkias, Southington’s Abigail Lo Presti and Tyler Bade, Plainville’s Rachel Parsons and Cole McNamara, St. Paul Catholic’s Catherine Ciampi and Jordan Rinaldi, Newington’s Abigail Molloy and Daniel Pestrichello, Goodwin Tech’s Soannie Arroyo and Ryan Johnson, Innovation’s Morgan Sartor and Quentin Askew, and Terryville’s Cara Marie Andrews Colin and Michael Bamrick.
