ROUNDUP: Southington girls swimming improves to 2-0 with victory over Plainville

PLAINVILLE - The Southington girls swim team improved to 2-0 with a 94-83 victory over Plainville Friday.

Plainville freshman Natalie Basile qualified for states in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke.

Winning events for Southington were: the 200 medley relay team (Sarah Meade, Andie Nadeau, Meghan Hammarlund and Gigi Perugini), 200 free relay team (Meade, Nadeau, Kendall Noonan and Perugini), 400 free relay (Maddie Symecko, Noonan, Emma Jekubovich and Hammarlund), Maddie Symecko (200 and 500 free), Gianna Perugini (50 free), Lizzy Beaulieu (diving), Andie Nadeau (100 free and 100 breast), Kendall Noonan (100 fly) and Meghan Hammarlund (100 back).

Berlin 96, Bristol Central 84: Kaitlyn Nielsen (500 free), Kristen Kozlowski (diving) and the 200 freestyle relay (Julia Raynock, Jill Plamuor, Molly Szsecniak and Maddie Palmese) were all winning events for the Redcoats. Palmese (50 and 100 freestyle) and Raynock (100 breaststroke) each qualified for state meets.


Hall 1, Southington 0 (OT): Goalkeeper Ryan Lunn made 12 saves for the Blue Knights, but Hall got a goal from Jamie Cowan in overtime.

Goodwin Tech 1, Whitney Tech 1: Chris Cumba scored for Goodwin Tech, while goalkeeper Edgar Calixto made 19 saves.


Newington 7, Rocky Hill 0: Olivia Mullings (2), Reagan Pelton (2), Emily Chojnicki, Alyse Karanian and Abby Corcoran all scored for the Indians. Pelton (2), Olivia Mullings (2), Chojnicki and Karanian had assists. Goalkeepers Bree Norton and Ella DePase combined on two saves.

Goodwin Tech 4, Wilcox Tech 2: Asia Vibert scored three second-half goals for the winning team. Faith Chambers added the other. Jenya Artis, Chambers and Jillian Yezierski all had assists, while goalkeeper Syrina Lorenzo made three saves.

Civic Leadership/AAE 5, Innovation 3: Alice Bidoae netted three goals in the losing effort for Innovation. Goalkeeper Te'ijah Roberts had eight saves, while Ariana Rivas stopped five shots.


New Britain 3, Innovation 0: The Hurricanes won 25-21, 25-15, 25-18 at home.

For New Britain (2-2), Audrey Belliveau had 23 assists; Raven Simone-Jarrett had 19 kills, seven aces and 10 digs; and Natalie Hernandez had seven service points and four kills.

For Innovation, Victoria Merced had 10 kills and Molly Corcoran had 12 assists.
